The origin story of the Achterknives brand. Because handmade means handmade.

When people ask if it is hard to make a knife, I think of an older gentleman I met in Sweden. He was whittling a piece of wood into a Dalecarlian horse. I asked him if it was hard to make a horse. He gave me a wry smile and said, “No son it is not hard. You just have to cut away what’s not the horse.”

I started knife-making five years ago. A friend, who had been in the knife-making business for many years, introduced me to John Gray (@johngrayknives). John, a kind and patient man, became my teacher, allowing me to look over his shoulder at his grinding technique.
